COMPLIANCE UPDATE:
Recommended Industrial Ink Jet Printer(s) For Direct Product
Marking
Mil-Std-130
requires the direct product marking (DPM) of Data Matrix codes
on component parts. All JETEC industrial ink jet systems [BMS™,
Stellar™, LMS™, Orion™, Flex-A-Jet™ and
TMS™ Series] can be upgraded to meet the Mil-Std-130 Parts
Marking Standard, including the UID requirements.
Systems
installed prior to January 2004 may require one or more of the
following items:
Mil-Std-130
requires the DPM of verifiable 2D codes per the ANSI standard
for Data Matrix symbology. Not all industrial ink jet printers
are capable of meeting this requirement. Some industrial ink
jet printer models provide a relatively low grade for Data Matrix
Fixed Pattern Damage assessment. (The Fixed Pattern Damage assessment
grades the outside “L” of the fixed pattern and the
clock track and adjacent solid area segments of the printed
Data Matrix code. In addition to the assessment of the individual
segments, an average grade or AG is also determined. The Fixed
Pattern Damage grade for the printed 2D code shall be the lowest
of the five segment grades and the grade for AG.)

can upgrade your existing system with a printer capable of Mil-Std-130
compliancy. Printers with vertical matrices ranging from 1 to
48 dots tall are available, however 24 and 32 dot tall maximum

printer replacements. Some of the recommended printers can use
your existing fluids, however, in other cases a fluid change
